Helena Poker Tournaments - Texas Holdem Blinds

Author: David Foss

In Texas holdem poker, there are two kinds of blinds. These Texas holdem blinds are the big blind and the small blind. The blinds are simply forced bets that you will need to make to ensure that there is money on the pot that you will play for.

If you are playing Texas holdem poker with $1-$2 blinds, you know that the small blind is valued at a dollar and the big blind is valued at two dollars. These Texas holdem blinds makes it possible for the pot to start at $3. All the other players will then either call the $2 bet or raise it. If you are in the small blind position and no one has made a raise, you simply need to make a bet of another dollar to meet the pot.

On the other hand, if you are in the big blind position and no one has made a raise before the flop, you need not put in any more money. If all the other players fold, you will be able to gather the three-dollar pot. The same is true if you are in the small blind or if you are in any other position. The only difference is, if you are not sitting at the blinds, you earn a clean profit of $3 for your chip stack.

Now, most beginners often make the mistake of defending their blinds too aggressively. What they fail to understand is that blinds are forced bets that you cannot control. You simply have to make the force bets to keep the game going. So if you are sitting at the blinds and you pick up weak hands, try your best not to be too aggressive and fold to keep you from losing more chips.

Texas holdem blinds make Texas holdem poker games more exciting, and it is best that you learn how to play them well.
